as the only real wear is some loosening to the weave of the linen in the top corners--so it might be good to reinforce those by adding a piece or strip of fabric to the back

The bottom half is entirely carved from one piece of wood, no joints, with two pairs of lovely carved notches along the edges of the rail on the top, into which the sliding lid fits perfectly, nice and tight.
